Brief Encounter Film Location and English Stately Home

Visit the setting of one of the greatest British films of all time at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre before heading to Leighton Hall, the historic seat of the Gillow family, which is still occupied by them to this day.

YOUR TOUR ITINERARY

Meet our representative at The Mill at Manchester Piccadilly railway station, who will be available from 08:30 for 30 minutes, to receive your tickets and travel pack. Travel by train to Carnfrorth where you can explore the station, heritage centre and refreshment room, which are famous as the setting of David Lean's romantic classic Brief Encounter. Then, meet your pre-booked taxi to Leighton Hall for a guided tour of the stately home before returning to Carnforth and catching the train back to Manchester.

  • Return train from Manchester to Carnforth
    Travel by train to Carnforth (journey time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes).
  • Carnforth Station Heritage Centre
    Carnforth Station Heritage Centre, including the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room, have been restored to their 1940s glory, when the refreshment room was used as the setting for David Lean’s classic romance Brief Encounter. Take a picture under the famous station clock, re-watch the film in the mini-cinema and learn about the production of the film at the David Lean Exhibition.
  • Lunch in the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room (not included in price)
    Grab a bite to eat in the Refreshment Room, where one of Britain’s most iconic romances began when Dr Alec Harvey first met Laura Jesson. You may even be able to sit in the Station Master’s Office, where Celia Johnson rested in between takes during filming.
  • Private Transfer to Leighton Hall
    Meet your pre-booked transfer for the short journey to Leighton Hall
  • Guided Tour of Leighton Hall
    The Lady of the Manor, Suzie Reynolds, greets visitors to the family home before embarking on a guided tour of the elegant hall. Afterwards, stroll in the grounds, where you might catch a falconry display, or enjoy afternoon tea in the original Victorian kitchen quarters.
  • Return Transfer to Carnforth and Train to Manchester Piccadilly
    Meet your pre-booked return transfer to Carnforth Station where you will catch your return train to Manchester.

Suggested return from Carnforth 17:39; arrival in Manchester 19:15.
